How to Complete The Works Questionnaire
Step-by-step guidance for selecting survey modules, reviewing jobs, entering compensation data, and preparing a complete questionnaire submission.
Use this guide to complete The Works questionnaire. It covers the key review points, including job updates, survey module selection, incumbent compensation, hourly ranges, country-specific fields, and long-term incentive data.

Use this page when completing your questionnaire, validating job mappings, selecting the correct survey module, completing compensation details, and performing a final review before submission.
Participation Options
Your organization may participate in the full The Works Survey Suite or select one individual Compensation Survey module. The Works Survey Suite includes all modules listed below. If you are not participating in the full survey suite, select only the individual module that applies to your organization.
Important: If you participate in The Works Survey Suite, no separate module selection is needed because all modules are included. If you participate in only one individual Compensation Survey module, download the Multi-Survey Questionnaire, go to the Job Codes & Descriptions tab, and use columns M through AC to choose option "1" under Filter for the applicable module.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow the sections below as you work through the questionnaire. Each section highlights the key actions needed for a complete and accurate submission.
1. Confirm the current survey file
Open the workbook, review the table of contents, and make sure you are working in the correct file for the current survey year.
2. Review Job Codes & Descriptions
Check the survey job list and pay close attention to jobs marked new or revised for the current year. Confirm whether each role exists in your organization and map employees appropriately.
3. Select the appropriate survey module
Download the Multi-Survey Questionnaire and open the Job Codes & Descriptions tab. In the columns on the right, columns M through AC, review the available survey modules. You may participate in the full The Works Survey Suite or select one individual Compensation Survey module. If you are participating in The Works Survey Suite, all modules are already included and no separate module selection is needed. If you are not participating in the full survey suite, choose option "1" under Filter for the applicable individual module.
4. Review newly added jobs carefully
Do not skip new jobs automatically. Check whether any employees should be aligned to those roles and include them where applicable.
5. Complete incumbent compensation data
Enter compensation information in the requested format, use the correct employee type, and complete all required pay fields consistently for each incumbent.
6. Complete country-specific fields
For employees in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or other applicable countries, complete all location and compensation fields required for those records.
7. Fill in hourly pay ranges
Where hourly compensation applies, complete the full range requested, including minimum, midpoint, and maximum values.
8. Enter long-term incentive data correctly
Report yearly ongoing grant information where applicable. Avoid replacing annual grant data with one-time notes or incomplete descriptions.
9. Perform a final review before submission
Check for blanks, confirm all required tabs are complete, verify new and revised jobs were reviewed, confirm any individual survey module selections, and make sure formatting is consistent throughout the file.
10. Submit the completed questionnaire
Return the completed workbook according to the submission instructions provided by Empsight. Confirm that the file includes your organization’s applicable data, survey module selections, and all required compensation fields.
Common Issues to Avoid
Incomplete job review
Skipping roles marked new or revised can lead to missing or incorrectly mapped employees in the final submission.
Missing module selection
If you are not participating in The Works Survey Suite, be sure to select the applicable individual Compensation Survey module by choosing option "1" under Filter in columns M through AC on the Job Codes & Descriptions tab.
Partial compensation entries
Leaving hourly ranges incomplete or omitting annual long-term incentive data may delay review or require follow-up corrections.
Incomplete international records
Country-specific records should include all applicable location and compensation fields for employees outside the United States.
Missed workbook guidance
Notes and comments built into the workbook often clarify formatting, required values, and country-specific rules.
Incorrect survey suite assumption
All modules are included in The Works Survey Suite. Individual module selection is only needed when you are not participating in the full survey suite.
Submission Checklist
Before returning the questionnaire, confirm that each of the following has been completed.
• Confirmed the correct current-year questionnaire workbook
• Reviewed job codes and descriptions
• Checked all new and revised jobs
• Confirmed whether you are participating in The Works Survey Suite or one individual Compensation Survey module
• Selected the appropriate individual survey module, if not participating in The Works Survey Suite
• Completed incumbent compensation fields
• Added country-specific information where applicable
• Filled in hourly pay ranges completely
• Entered yearly ongoing long-term incentive data
• Completed a final quality check
